Program Description:
In this exclusive blendVET bundle, you’ll go from learning the fundamentals of our ever-evolving language surrounding gender expression to navigating educational conversations, and creating supporting environments of allyship through the personal lens of two front-line veterinary professionals. Through research, coupled with lived-experiences, you’ll be enlightened by the ways you can be the change we need to see for the transgender and LGBTQIA+ communities in veterinary medicine!
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the baseline differences between Gender Identity, Gender Expression, Sexuality, and Biological Sex
- Understand what pronouns and neopronouns are, how to use them, and why respecting them is important.
- Understand how to proceed when misgendering occurs.
- Identify the difference between an active and passive ally.
- Understand and utilize strategies of an active ally.
- Understand a general overview of identifying terminology and population statistics in the transgender community.
- Be able to apply social tools in navigating complex conversations surrounding transgender rights in the workplace.
- Understand how to establish a safe environment in the hospital for transgender employees and customers.
About the Presenters:
Khristian Finch
Khristian Finch (he/him) has served as a veterinary professional since 2009, and currently works as a veterinary technician within the Atlanta, GA metroplex. During his time as a client service coordinator, animal trainer, groomer, and Practice Manager, he describes his positive experiences with his transgender journey within the medical profession, and the impacts of having an empathic approach within the clinic setting. As an employee, he details how he became comfortable answering limited questions by his associates, yet also directing them to utilize a variety of tools to self-educate, such as resources provided by PrideVMC. Khristian is excited to share his story with you in this groundbreaking module presented by blendVET®.
Stiles Foster
Stiles Foster (he/they) is currently the Chief Learning Officer at blendVET. Throughout his extensive career in veterinary medicine, he has transitioned from being a veterinary technician to working as the diversity, equity, inclusion, & belonging (DEIB) manager at a major corporate veterinary emergency group and DEIB consultant within the veterinary profession. During their pivot into the world of DEIB, Stiles claimed the inaugural role as the first DEIB professional within their corporation, developing & overseeing the educational team, content, programming, & strategy prior to joining blendVET.
