Program Description:
This course discusses the components of unconscious bias and its effects on veterinary medicine. This course will cover how cognitive biases are processed and perceived, how to unpack individual and systemic biases, and how to make actionable steps to counter bias.
Learning Objectives:
- To understand the concept of heuristics and biases, and how they affect our interactions.
- To understand your own biases and your potential for biases.
- To understand how to navigate the impact of your biases, and how to course correct when needed.
- To understand how to create systemic change that challenges institutional biases in veterinary medicine.
About the Presenter
Stiles Foster (he/they) is currently the Chief Learning Officer at blendVET. Throughout his extensive career in veterinary medicine, he has transitioned from being a veterinary technician to working as the diversity, equity, inclusion, & belonging (DEIB) manager at a major corporate veterinary emergency group and DEIB consultant within the veterinary profession. During their pivot into the world of DEIB, Stiles claimed the inaugural role as the first DEIB professional within their corporation, developing & overseeing the educational team, content, programming, & strategy prior to joining blendVET.
